May 2022 – The Newsletter of Aventure Aviation A Boeing 737NG Shopping Spree:
Aventure Aviation has acquired a Boeing 737NG, MSN 35140, the youngest 737NG airframe it has ever obtained. Teardown for the recently retired TUI Airways aircraft will be done by KLM UK Engineering in Norwich, United Kingdom. This is Aventure's fourth 737NG purchase for 2022. Parts will join an extensive stock of existing 737NG inventory stored in Atlanta. The purchase comes a few weeks after Aventure's acquisition of a WestJet Airlines Boeing 737NG, MSN 32713. "Our growing list of teardowns has allowed us to develop operating procedures that ensure efficient handling of the entire process from start to finish," said Sales Director Andrew Crombie. "With passenger numbers growing around the world and 737NG load factors continuing to outpace any other aircraft type, we are committed to building up a large inventory." Aventure is in active discussions with owners, financial institutions, lessors, and airlines to find revenue-generating teardown solutions for idle aircraft. "We created this award to recognize shops performing to our highest standards," said Aventure Aviation President Talha Faruqi. Over the past three years Aventure Aviation has outsourced over $7 million in parts to MRO shops from aircraft teardowns and sub-contracted repair management work. Pioneering Astronaut Remembered for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month For Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Aventure remembers the accomplishments and ultimate sacrifice of Ellison Shoji Onizuka. Onizuka was an American astronaut, engineer, and USAF test pilot from Kealakekua, Hawaii. He became the first Asian American and person of Japanese origin in space. He was born on June 24, 1946, in the Kona district of Hawaiʻi island, where he was raised and graduated high school. In 1969, he received degrees in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Colorado, where he participated in U.S. Air Force ROTC. The following year, Onizuka entered active duty with the U.S. Air Force, serving as a flight test engineer and test pilot. Selected for the astronaut program in 1978, his first space mission took place January 24, 1985, on the Space Shuttle Discovery. One year and four days later, Onizuka, along with six other crew members, perished when the Space Shuttle Challenger was tragically destroyed 73 seconds after launch. Onizuka was buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was promoted posthumously to the rank of colonel. Onizuka's legacy has been remembered in many ways. Hawaii dedicated a space center and airport in his honor, while streets in California and Texas are named after him. Farther from Earth, an asteroid and Moon crater bear his name.
